MH-Foundation at Ambuwakka Primary School
Thanks to the incredible efforts of the MH-Foundation team – Family Himash Malaka, Rashika Jeewanthi, Nixon Sheahan Arasaratnam, and Dr. Chamila from PetVet – we had the honor of visiting the Ambuwakka Primary School in the remote village of Alawathura. A heartfelt thank you also to the kind neighbor who lent us his sweet and enthusiastic dog, helping us make this day unforgettable!
We were warmly welcomed by the inspiring Principal, Madam Suneetha Galaudadewa, her dedicated team of teachers, the bright and curious students, their supportive parents, and so many more wonderful individuals. Bohoma Sthuthi – thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
After a lovely traditional welcome, we witnessed a touching student exhibition, showing their immense creativity and potential. The day continued with heartfelt speeches – in Sinhala and beautifully translated into English for us – setting the stage for a program full of joy and learning.
We proudly handed over several musical instruments to the school, giving children the opportunity to make music with real instruments instead of tapping on tables – a small gift with a huge impact!
Ambuwakka Primary School lies in a very remote area, where self-sufficiency and improvisation are a way of life. Despite the challenges, they are doing a remarkable job – and every bit of support helps them shine even brighter.
During our visit, MH-Foundation once again combined forces with PetVet to educate the children and community about interacting safely and compassionately with (stray) animals.
Creating a better future
During our visit, MH-Foundation once again combined forces with PetVet to educate the children and community about interacting safely and compassionately with (stray) animals.
We covered:
- How to approach and care for stray animals.
- The dangers of rabies – and how vaccinations save both animal and human lives.
- How a little Tender Loving Care (TLC) can turn a stray into a loyal companion.
- At the same time, through our Mapping Stray Animals Project, we track the local stray population by breed, gender, vaccination, sterilization status, and their socialization potential – creating a safer, healthier future for both animals and people.
And because learning should also be fun, we organized a Coloring Contest! Every child received a set of new coloring pencils.
Special prizes were awarded:
🥉 3rd Prize – a typical Dutch pen,
🥈 2nd Prize – a wooden shoe filled with pencils,
🥇 1st Prize – a starter set to become a future artist!
We didn’t forget the hardworking teachers either – each received a brand-new umbrella for sun and rain.
And of course, as a proud Dutchman and soccer enthusiast, Rob Heijtink donated bright orange footballs and other sports equipment, sparking dreams of future soccer stars!
Every small gesture creates a ripple of change.
Your support enables us to continue these educational projects, bringing hope, knowledge, and joy to remote communities that deserve it the most.
Thank you to everyone who contributed – for the beautifully hand-drawn pictures, the huge box of Sri Lankan spices, but above all, for the incredible enthusiasm and warmth you shared with us.

Bohoma Sthuthi – and we hope to see you all again very soon!
